\u00e0 toxicidade das poeiras contendo ber\u00edlio inaladas que podem causar uma doen\u00e7a al\u00e9rgica cr\u00f4nica com risco de vida em algumas pessoas chamada beriliose.\u00a0O ber\u00edlio tem uma grande se\u00e7\u00e3o transversal de espalhamento para n\u00eautrons de alta energia, cerca de 6 celeiros para energias acima de aproximadamente 10 keV.\u00a0Portanto, funciona como um refletor de n\u00eautrons e moderador de n\u00eautrons, reduzindo efetivamente os n\u00eautrons \u00e0 energia t\u00e9rmica.\u00a0Como o ber\u00edlio tem um limiar de energia muito baixo para emiss\u00e3o de
